Webinar on Geographical Indications for Industrial and Craft products in Europe: Promoting and Protecting Local Heritage in Light of the New European Regulation – Focus on the Ceramics and Glass Sectors.

This webinar will take place online from 10:00 am to 12:00pm on 22 September 2025.

Programme

Starting in December 2025, craft and industrial products will receive full protection under an EU-wide Geographical Indications (GIs) Regulation (EU) 2023/2411. This regulation establishes a unified EU title to safeguard the names of craft and industrial products across all EU countries. It empowers producers to prevent the use of these names for similar products made outside the designated geographical areas, thus helping them combat counterfeits both online and offline. The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) will be responsible for GI registrations. GIs serve as a tool for territorial economic development, helping to maintain jobs and foster a collective dynamic.

We invite you to participate in a seminar dedicated to the Geographical Indications for Craft and Industrial Products (CIGIs) in Europe. This event presents a key opportunity to understand and adapt to regulatory developments. We will focus on the new European regulation on geographical indications, which provides new avenues for protecting and promoting artisanal know-how.

During this webinar, we will analyze the concrete implications of this new regulatory framework, its benefits for artisans, and the challenges it presents for preserving the cultural and economic heritage of local areas. Discussions with experts, institutional representatives, and European artisans will shed light on the strategies that can be adopted to leverage these changes and strengthen the recognition of exceptional products.
